What do I used to clean my jewelry? |
| |
Cleaning your jewelry actually extends the life of the piece. Common household ammonia usually works best to clean your jewelry. Allow the piece to soak for about 5
minutes and then rinse with tap water. If this does not do the job, it is time to bring the piece to us for assistance.
Ammonia is not the answer to all cleaning issues. In fact, it can be harmful on the wrong piece. Gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, sapphires, rubys, and most
semi-precious stones can be cleaned without any problem. Emeralds, opals, and the more porous type stones should not be cleaned in ammonia, unless is simply dipped
any rinsed. They should not be soaked.
Some gems, such as pearls, lapis, or jade, should NEVER be cleaned with ammonia. Pearls can be cleaned with warm water and Ivory Liquid detergent. If you
have any questions about cleaning any of your jewelry, do not hesitate to contact us.
Note: Many household products contain chemicals that are harmful to your jewelry. The most major cleaning product chemical that can damage your jewelry is
chlorine bleach. Many other products also have chemicals that you would not think about. Hairspray and perfume both contain alcohol, which can eat the nacre off of
your pearls and cause them to turn yellow.
